National Retail Crime Intelligence Drive

For the Winter Initiative (running from Monday 1st December – Saturday 31st January) Opal are collaborating with the National Business Crime Centre, Safer Business Network, and the National Association for Business Crime Reduction Partnerships to deliver a national intelligence drive

Aim:

The National Intelligence Drive is a partnership campaign designed to identify and collect quality intelligence, with potential links to organised retail crime, held at local levels by retailers, organisations supporting retailers and local police forces to ensure that this intelligence is effectively captured and fed into national policing mechanisms.

How it works:

  • Opal have recently circulated the ORC National Intelligence Requirements (attached).

  • Priority intelligence gaps have been identified within these requirements, forming the basis of this intelligence drive.

  • The team is seeking just five pieces of quality intelligence per partner across the Winter Initiative period to support further development – though more is welcome.

  • Opal will provide briefings to teams to support a greater understanding of the key intelligence gaps, how to identify relevant information, and how this information can be fed into Opal.

  • Opal will work to develop the intelligence received and share the resulting threat picture with partners, helping them understand the key links between local intelligence and national activity.

  • For police partners, intelligence can be submitted through the usual force mechanisms, notifying Opal of the IR reference or sending a copy directly to Opal.

  • For other partners, Opal has designed the Organised Retail Crime Intelligence Submission form.

Briefing session dates will follow with separate, dedicated registration links for partners & law enforcement.

To submit intelligence/information to Opal, please read through the PDF here.
