Grocery Aid: Financial grants to help grocery colleagues through difficult times
With increased heating costs, and food and rent continuing to rise, the cost of living can be overwhelming, and it is easy to feel alone with financial struggles.
But you are not alone. GroceryAid wants to help you get on top of finances and improve your wellbeing. The charity can assist with everything from debt advice and handling household bills to managing benefits or even saving for big life events, through its expert partners such as StepChange and MoneyHelper.
Sometimes life changes, such as an illness in the household or a relationship breakdown, can bring a sudden loss in income, which is very stressful to overcome. Subject to meeting GroceryAid’s eligibility criteria, financial grants can lessen the load in times of emergency or when there has been a significant change in circumstances.
On a day-to-day basis, the cost-of-living crisis can affect low-income households the most. GroceryAid can provide a one-off grant to help with spiraling costs; current grocery employees who have worked in the industry for the last six months (including the wholesale sector) – and also receive Universal Credit or Tax Credits – are eligible to apply. The grant varies depending on individual circumstances, but in all cases, it is non-repayable – a cash boost to ease the load in harder times.
Financial worries can be difficult both practically and emotionally. If you have worked in grocery for at least six months you may also be eligible for free counselling support through Relate. GroceryAid also partners with Spectrum Life to provide a wide range of self-help guides on groceryaid.org.
Mandi Leonard, GroceryAid Welfare Director comments: “GroceryAid is here to support all grocery colleagues who need us. In 2025 we provided £4.6m in financial grants and, as one of the 2.6 million people working in the grocery industry, GroceryAid should be your first port of call to see if you’re eligible for a grant. The application involves completing a simple form on our website and all personal information is treated in the strictest confidence by our specialist team.”
