Disposable BBQ Sales and NFCC Alert Proposals - Extension of NFCC Proposal to 26 August

We have received the following update from NFCC, requesting that retailers continue the withdrawal of disposable BBQs from sale until 26 August. 

NFCC:

Further to the National Fire Chiefs Council's letter to the British Retail Consortium dated 15 July, and subsequent requests to support the voluntary withdrawal of disposable barbecues from sale during periods of heightened wildfire risk, we would be grateful if retailers would continue supporting this request for a further two weeks, until 26 August.

This request reflects the forecast for continued hot and dry weather across many parts of the UK over the coming weeks, with high temperatures expected to increase the risk of wildfires and other outdoor fires.

We would like to thank the British Retail Consortium and retailers for their continued cooperation and support throughout the summer. Their proactive response has demonstrated a shared commitment to protecting communities, the countryside, wildlife and critical infrastructure from the devastating impacts of wildfire.

While many wildfires are preventable, periods of prolonged hot and dry weather can significantly increase the speed at which fires start and spread. Reducing potential ignition sources during these conditions remains an important part of helping to minimise risk.

Preventing wildfires is a collective effort, and retailers play an important role alongside fire and rescue services, land managers and the public in helping to reduce the likelihood of incidents during periods of heightened fire danger.
