Update to unfair dismissal elements of the Employment Rights Bill

The UK Government has withdrawn proposals set out in the Employment Rights Bill to give workers protection against unfair dismissal from the first day of employment. Instead, the qualifying period will be set at six months’ service. This update was confirmed in a press release from the Department for Business and Trade on 27th November.

The existing requirement before an employee may bring an unfair dismissal claim is currently 24 months’ service.
