Strengthening the Soft Drinks Industry Levy consultation

The UK Government are seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) following its recent review. The key proposals include:

  • Lowering the threshold for the levy from 5g to 4g of total sugar per 100ml.

  • Removing the exemption for milk-based drinks, while allowing for naturally occurring lactose.

  • Removing the exemption for milk substitute drinks that contain added sugars beyond those from the main ingredient (e.g. oats or rice).

SGF will be submitting to the consultation and has been engaged with soft drinks to support its response. To read more on this and respond to the consultation, click here.
