SGF Mini-Summit Highlights Scale of Issues Confronting Convenience Retailers

On 11th June, the Scottish Grocers' Federation (SGF) brought together retailers, industry leaders and key stakeholders for its Mini-Summit, Changing Face of Retail – DRS, HFSS, Illicit Trade and Tobacco & Vapes, at a pivotal time for Scotland's convenience and grocery sector.

The event featured four panel sessions throughout the day, focusing on some of the most significant issues currently affecting retailers, including the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), the ongoing impact of HFSS regulations, tobacco & vape regulation, and the growing threat posed by illicit trade. Attendees heard from a range of expert speakers who provided practical insights into how these developments could affect businesses and outlined the steps retailers could take to prepare for the challenges ahead.

The summit also provided valuable opportunities for retailers to engage directly with exhibitors and industry representatives, allowing them to explore products, services and solutions designed to support convenience stores in a rapidly changing marketplace.

Throughout the day, discussions highlighted the scale and breadth of the challenges facing Scotland's convenience sector, while also showcasing the resilience and adaptability of retailers. The event reinforced the importance of collaboration across the industry and provided retailers with the knowledge, support and connections needed to navigate change with confidence.

A huge thank you to our fantastic panellists, sponsors and exhibitors, and to everyone who took the time to attend and engage in the discussions throughout the day.
