REMINDER: Tobacco and Nicotine Vapour Product Register and Business Interruption Insurance

This is a reminder to ensure that your business is properly registered on Scotland’s Tobacco and Vape Retail Register if you sell tobacco products, nicotine vaping products, or both.

Under Scottish law, all retailers who sell tobacco or vaping products must be registered. It is an offence to sell these products without being listed on the register.

Please check that:

  • Your business is registered on the Tobacco and Vape Retail Register, and

  • The details for your premises are accurate and up to date.

If your business has recently started selling vaping products, you must ensure these are also included on your registration.

Register or update your details here -> https://www.tobaccoregisterscotland.org

SGF has written a guide which details retailers’ responsibilities for selling tobacco and vapes, which we encourage members to read -> Regulations for Nicotine Vaping Products and Tobacco Compliance in Scotland

In addition to registering on the tobacco and vapes register please:

  • Ensure robust fire safety precautions are in place and adhered to

  • Check any products you sell, especially vapes, are fully compliant with current legislation

  • Ensure vaping products are stored and displayed safely

Business Interruption Insurance

In addition to commercial property insurance and contents insurance, it is very important to have Business Interruption Insurance.

If a serious incident, such as a fire, forces you to close temporarily, this covers:

  • lost income/profit

  • ongoing costs (rent, wages, utilities)

  • sometimes temporary premises
