Employment Rights Bill passed in UK parliament

The Employment Rights Bill has been passed and received Royal Assent on 18th December.

The Act introduces 28 reforms aimed at delivering the Government’s commitment to “make work pay”, including changes to statutory sick pay, the introduction of day-one rights to parental leave, and enhanced protections for workers on zero-hours and other low-hours contracts.

It will give workers access to sick pay and paternity leave from the first day on the job and contains new protections for pregnant women and new mothers.

Most of the bill's measures will require secondary legislation before coming into force and will be phased in throughout 2026 and 2027.

SGF will be engaging with the detail of these reforms and respond to future consultations that are relevant to our sector.
