Changes to the Soft Drinks Industry Levy – UK Government Consultation
The UK Government are seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) following its recent review. The key proposals include:
Lowering the threshold for the levy from 5g to 4g of total sugar per 100ml.
Removing the exemption for milk-based drinks, while allowing for naturally occurring lactose.
Removing the exemption for milk substitute drinks that contain added sugars beyond those from the main ingredient (e.g. oats or rice).
The government invites responses to its consultation to help inform final decisions by HM Treasury ministers. To read more on this and respond to the consultation, click here.
